Michael Schlegel is a Berlin-based landscape photographer and he is fascinated by long-exposure fine art black and white photography. Michael Schlegel consistently documents native plants around the world, this series of photographs was captured in Fanal region of Madeira, Portugal.
In Michael’s words, “These trees are located at an altitude of around 1,000m [3,280 ft.] in western Madeira and some of them are up to 500 years old. It was only dense fog all day long and from the moment I first arrived at the trees. I photographed there for five consequent days and really enjoyed the atmosphere of walking around lonely, only being able to see what the fog allows me to and being alone with maybe one or a few of these old, mysterious trees at a time.”
