I arrived in India with a few images of Steve mc Curry in mind and the idea to find a place steeped in spirituality and mystery. It was not like that..at first. As soon as I got off the plane, I was hit by a chaotic and noisy flow of human beings, vehicles, and animals. Putting order to that world has been a necessity for my European eyes. What it eventually emerged was a reality made of everyday rituals and mundane activities going through a specific and static order, a life that continues going as it has always gone. In India, you’d better to flow as everyone does by allowing to yourself and to others a deep affection, wonder, and indulgence.

About Tommaso Vaccarezza

Born in Genova (Italy) in 1977, I approach photography in my early 20s as I used to work for a photograph lab in a seaside town. From 2015 to 2016 I attended a masterclass in photo-reportage at the WSP collective in Rome which enabled me to turn a hobby into a real passion and to shift my focus from single photos to long term projects. To me, wandering around with my camera and seeing the world through its lenses is an act of pure freedom and imagination. In love with authentic places and habits that still remain unchanged over time, my subjects are often a mirror where I can reflect my true self.
