During the quiet days of the first COVID-19 lockdown in the summer of 2020, Irish artist Chris Judge found unexpected inspiration right above his head. While spending time in the garden with his wife and young children—transforming it into a peaceful retreat—they began to truly reconnect with nature.
His 8-year-old daughter, armed with his old Canon camera, captured the world around them in vivid detail: blooming flowers, curious bugs, fluttering birds, and most notably, the ever-changing sky. One calm evening, Chris noticed a pair of soft pink clouds that resembled a monkey and a bear. On a whim, he photographed them, sketched some playful pencil lines over the shapes, and shared them online.
What started as a spontaneous, light-hearted post quickly turned into a beloved daily ritual. The response on social media was overwhelmingly positive, and Chris continued creating these whimsical cloud doodles every day. By adding simple, clever illustrations to photos of clouds, he brought them to life in ways that sparked both joy and imagination.
His work transforms ordinary skies into delightful characters and scenes, inviting viewers to pause, smile, and see the world a little differently—just as he and his family had during those quiet lockdown moments.
