My name is Tavepong Pratoomwong, and I’m from Thailand. For me, street photography is how I make sense of the world, capturing it one moment at a time. When I arrived in Mexico, I didn’t bring a strict plan or a list of shots to tick off. Instead, I showed up with an open mind, a bit of curiosity, and my camera, ready to see what would unfold on the streets.

Mexico hits you with its energy, the colors, the way the sunlight slices between buildings, people rushing by, and scenes changing in the blink of an eye. This is the environment where I feel most alive. I love chasing those little surprises: an odd pairing, a fleeting gesture, or a perfectly timed movement that transforms an everyday scene into something memorable.

On this trip, I wanted to keep things simple. I brought just one camera, the Sony A1 II, and one lens, the Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G, instead of my usual 24-50mm. It felt right, almost as if it were made for my hands. That extra range let me switch easily between wide shots and close-ups, giving me more freedom to experiment with different perspectives.

I’ve always preferred shooting with a smaller aperture, so using f/4 was no problem for me. When the light faded, I just bumped up the ISO, and the camera took it in stride. The images stayed sharp and full of detail, capturing the atmosphere exactly as I saw it.

Ultimately, this trip wasn’t about the equipment. It was about being present, one camera, one lens, and a city bursting with stories to tell.

FAQs:

Who is Tavepong Pratoomwong?

Tavepong Pratoomwong is a street photographer from Thailand who has a real knack for spotting interesting moments in daily life. His photos often have a playful touch and a strong sense of rhythm, turning ordinary scenes into fun and memorable stories.

What camera did Tavepong use in Mexico?

He brought along the Sony A1 II, a mirrorless camera that’s quick, sharp, and handles low light really well. This gave him the freedom to catch spontaneous moments on the street without missing a beat.

Why did he use only one lens for the trip?

Sticking to just one lens made things simpler and let him pay more attention to what was happening around him. The Sony 20-70mm F4 G was flexible enough for wide shots and close-ups, so he never had to fumble with changing lenses.

How did he handle low-light street photography?

When the light got tricky, he just bumped up the ISO and trusted the Sony A1 II to handle any noise. Later, he used Lightroom to clean things up, so his photos stayed sharp and clear—even at night or indoors.

What is his key advice for street photographers?

Don’t get too caught up in gear. The real magic happens when you’re paying attention and ready for that split-second shot. Great street photos come from being present and trusting your gut, not just from fancy equipment.
