This harpy eagle is so big, some people think it’s a person in a costume. The harpy eagle is a neotropical species of eagle. It is also called the American harpy eagle to distinguish it from the Papuan eagle, which is sometimes known as the New Guinea harpy eagle or Papuan harpy eagle. It is the largest and most powerful raptor found throughout its range, and among the largest extant species of eagles in the world.
Recently someone uploaded a picture of the harpy eagle to the /r/NatureIsF-ingLit/ subreddit and it got over 92k upvotes in a day. People were absolutely amazed by this giant bird and some couldn’t believe it was actually real. The eagle can weigh up to 22 lbs (10 kg) and their wingspan can reach up over 7 feet (2.13 m) – talk about a flying giant!
