The Monovisions Photography Awards, one of the most prestigious competitions dedicated to black and white photography, has once again showcased the incredible power of visual storytelling in its 2025 edition. Among the many categories, street photography has stood out as a dynamic canvas where life unfolds in raw, unfiltered moments. This year’s winning images not only capture fleeting scenes from cities and towns around the world but also highlight the artistry of seeing beauty in the everyday.

Street photography, especially in monochrome, strips away distractions of color and focuses purely on composition, light, emotion, and timing. The 25 award-winning photographs selected this year are remarkable examples of how a simple moment—a passerby under a streetlamp, children playing in narrow alleys, or an elderly figure walking against the chaos of a bustling market—can be transformed into timeless visual poetry. Each frame resonates with human emotion, whether it’s humor, solitude, resilience, or quiet reflection.
What sets these works apart is the diversity of perspectives. Some photographers embraced minimalism, using shadows and lines to craft elegant frames, while others leaned into the raw grit of urban life, presenting powerful stories of struggle and endurance. The winning entries remind us that street photography is not just about documenting people, but about revealing the soul of a place, its rhythm, and its spirit.
Through these 25 award-winning street photos, the 2025 Monovisions Photography Awards celebrate not only technical mastery but also the deep humanity at the heart of the genre. They invite us to pause, observe, and appreciate the fleeting beauty in moments we might otherwise overlook. These images stand as proof that black and white photography continues to hold a timeless power in the art of visual storytelling.

#1. 1st Place Winner: "From Salute to Cheers" by Chris Mozyro
"I was walking through Westminster when I happened upon the scene. Seeing the young submariners together in such a relaxed, unguarded moment drew me in. It was as though the weight of their morning obligations had been lifted, replaced by the simple joy of friendship and shared experience. This image captures something deeply human — the need for connection after moments of reflection and duty.
Just hours earlier, these young submariners had marched with solemnity and precision, paying tribute to those who had gone before them. The shift from ceremony to celebration was palpable. The removal of formalities gave way to authentic, unguarded moments of laughter, storytelling, and shared reflection. The clinking of pints, the warmth of friendship, and the glow of pride in service filled the air."
