Renowned photographer Reuben Wu is recognized for his captivating images, where he skillfully employs LED lights and drones to craft surreal, otherworldly forms amidst nocturnal landscapes. Traditionally, such artistic feats necessitate elaborate photography setups. However, in his second collaboration with Apple, Wu demonstrates that the iPhone is a formidable contender against conventional DSLRs.
In celebration of the iPhone 15 Pro Max launch, Apple entrusted Wu to put their latest smartphone to the test. Having previously partnered with the tech giant, Wu eagerly embarked on this project to gauge the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s capabilities in real-world settings. To his delight, the results exceeded expectations.

“It proved to me that I was able to push my own vision without needing a much larger DSLR or mirrorless camera system. It doesn’t yet replace these larger systems, but knowing that the iPhone is easily capable of capturing images for large-scale gallery shows is remarkable.” Reuben Wu was commissioned by Apple to test out the new iPhone Pro Max 15.
Thanks to its compact size, the iPhone 15 Pro Max empowered Wu to explore previously inaccessible terrain. The result: intimate snapshots from the heart of the Utah desert, a perspective usually unattainable.
Wu marveled at his newfound physical agility on location, all thanks to the iPhone snug in his shirt pocket. Coupled with a lightweight tripod and a modest gear pack, he maneuvered through narrow, waterlogged slot canyons, capturing striking images he took pride in, regardless of the camera type.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s cutting-edge features, including a triple camera system, 5x zoom, and a tetraprism design simulating a 120mm focal length, signify a significant advancement. These innovations offer professional photographers unprecedented creative freedom. Wu, in particular, highlighted the iPhone’s ability to produce large-scale, high-quality prints, making it a game-changer in the world of photography.
