Uğur Gallenkuş, a digital artist based in Istanbul, creates poignant collages that starkly illustrate the disparities between different corners of the globe. By juxtaposing images from diverse realities, the artist sheds light on the myriad challenges faced by today’s children—ranging from poverty and hunger to child trafficking. Addressing a fundamental question that resonates universally—’What legacy are we leaving for the world’s children?’—Uğur challenges viewers to confront these pressing issues.
Driven by a deep sense of injustice, Uğur embarked on a significant endeavor: the publication of a book titled ‘Parallel Universes of Children.’ This powerful volume draws on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children, established in 1990, as its foundation. Through 50 meticulously crafted collages, the book communicates the fundamental rights every child deserves, irrespective of their circumstances or geographical location. Each collage embodies one of the U.N.-defined rights of children, accompanied by stark statistics that underscore the urgent realities endangering children worldwide.
Uğur envisions his book as a catalyst for change, urging adults to transcend their greed and egos. His heartfelt dedication echoes throughout: ‘This book is dedicated to all children in the world: whether poor or rich, residing in developed or undeveloped countries, educated or uneducated, hungry or obese, living or deceased. This book is a CALL TO ACTION!’ Through his compelling visual narratives, Uğur seeks to inspire a collective awakening, compelling us all to work towards a better world for the children of today.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Ukrainian exports of grain have been severely disrupted. For over four months, Russian military vessels have been blocking Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.
On 22 July 2022, an agreement was brokered by the United Nations and Turkey to open a safe maritime humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea (the Black Sea Grain Initiative). Since then, over 500 ships full of grain and other foodstuffs have left three Ukrainian ports: Chornomorsk, Odesa and Yuzhny/Pivdennyi.
While unblocking the sea export route has helped to address the global food security crisis and lower grain prices, the export backlogs remain significant. via the European Council
In 2020, Ukraine exported $4.61B in Wheat, making it the 5th largest exporter of Wheat in the world. At the same year, Wheat was the 3rd most exported product in Ukraine.
