The winners of the Chartered Institute of Building’s architectural photography competition have emerged.
From a pool of 1,500 submissions, only 15 photographs made the final cut, undergoing scrutiny from both the public and a panel of judges. Each of the two winners received £1,500 in recognition of their exceptional work.
The public’s choice award was Azim Khan Ronnie’s captivating series capturing group prayers unfolding within the halls of the National Mosque of Bangladesh. With 2,000 individuals casting their votes, Azim’s entry emerged triumphant, clinching an impressive 68 percent of the total vote. Meanwhile, the panel of judges selected a poignant portrayal of laborers toiling away in hazardous conditions at a brick factory, also situated in Bangladesh.

Thousands of people come together to pray over several floors of one of the biggest mosques in the world. The National Mosque of Bangladesh can hold up to 40,000 people, including in the outside open space.
#2. Judges’ Choice Winner, 2023: Bricks by Alain Schroeder
Bangladesh needs a lot of material to push forward its development, and that is why you can see a lot of brick factories in the country, where men, women and even children work in difficult and dangerous conditions.
