The Mood is peculiar and so are the photographs, Gabriel Isak is a wonderful fine-art photographer from Sweden, in this short space with 121clicks.com, he shares his views and thoughts on photography.

Gabriel quotes that he loves to use photography the very powerful medium as a metaphor for his soul and that is very much evident in his works. To describe his photographs, one definitely falls short of words and there is more mood and melancholy to them than straight descriptions. Keeping it simple with a 50mm and a square crop, Gabriel inspires us genuinely.

Gabriel Isak - Fine Art Photographer From Sweden

Can you please introduce yourself?

I am Gabriel Isak and grew up in Sweden. For the past years I have lived in San Francisco where I’m currently pursuing my career as a photographer.

How did photography happen to you?

I began taking pictures at a young age and picked it up again in the middle of 2015. From there on, it has slowly evolved into a medium that I use to document the internal and external world we live in, without it I have no voice to express myself with.

How would you describe your style of photography?

I use photography as a metaphor for experiences of the soul. Ever since I began taking pictures I have been inspired by surrealism and the inner world of dreams and psychology and try to incorporate that as much as I can into my work. I have discovered a lot about myself and the unconscious mind as I have evolved as a photographer and continue to explore new journeys as I go on.

There is a peculiar mood in your pictures, how do you achieve them?

For the past year my work has been inspired by the years I went through depression. I go location scout a lot to find the sceneries that will fit each image that I want to create. Time of day is also crucial as lightning is a key aspect in all my images to create the mood I am looking for.

What do you want your viewers to take away from your work?

I want the viewer to interact with the subjects and their internal world that are portrayed in my imagery, which in turn will allow the spectator to reflect on their own journey.

Can you explain us your post-processing process?

I always start out with asking myself what story I want to create. From there I begin to brainstorm with words before I sketch out how I visualize the final image. Sometimes research is involved as well before I begin with the brainstorming, depending on what I am creating. If it is going to be a composite I write down the order in which I will photograph the different images that later will be combined in post. I then decide for the location and plan it out accordingly to the weather. Once on location I explain the story I am trying to capture to my model with the help of reference images and my sketches. In the end, I bring the images together in post (again if it is a composite) and then work on the light and color adjustments.

Your Inspiration?

I also find a lot of inspiration from dreams, the psychological world, cinema, paintings, the surrealists and the serene landscape from Sweden.

Your gear?

I use a Canon 5DIII, a 50mm 1.4 lens, a 3 Legged Thing tripod and a self-timer.

Any final thoughts / advice for your fans, our readers?

Be yourself, create from within, and follow your own path in life.
