Bas Hordijk, a Dutch photographer and filmmaker, is captivated by the human figure in its surroundings. Through his keen sense of composition, he captures moments of romance and delicacy amid the chaos of everyday life.
In 2018, his short film ‘Morning Blue’ received the prestigious ‘Join the Journey Award’ at the International Project Mars Competition hosted by NASA. Bas graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Design from the University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU) in 2019.
His graduation film ‘Perspective’ (2019) earned him a Filmfonds Wildcard at the Nederlands Film Festival in Utrecht. This award will fund the production of his upcoming short film, set to premiere at a future edition of the Nederlands Film Festival.

“I’m Bas Hordijk, a 24-year-old from The Netherlands. I graduated with honors from the University of the Arts Utrecht last year, and now I’m fully immersed in both photography and filmmaking.
Around five years ago, I ventured into photography driven by a longing to wander aimlessly through the outdoor spaces, perhaps fueled by a quest for a sense of liberation. In my current creative pursuits, I channel my focus into capturing seemingly inconspicuous moments that captivate me during everyday life—moments that, to my perception, hold a profound beauty.”
