Can you please introduce yourself?

My name is Hari Roser. I´ve spent 2 years in Flickr with the screen name “slipper buddha”. I am an Architect and a Teacher at the University.

How you get started into photography?

6 years ago i went to India with my family, to live and work there for half a year. In Diu, Gujarat, we found slippers everywhere. I started to document the slippers with my Canon ixus. as a foreigner i was surprised by the culture of waste, which i found and learned to appreciate in India. When i came back to Germany, I ´ve started a project of documenting Buddha statues in German households. this was to investigate the understanding and misunderstanding of foreign culture.

There is a soulfulness and silence in your photographs. How did you achieve this style of photography?

During my studies in the United States i was introduced to the work of the famous architect Louis Kahn. I´ve read a book about him, it was titled: “Silence and Light”. Since then, i knew what i´m searching for.

What is your inspiration?

Besides architects like Louis Kahn, Tadao Ando or Sou Foujimoto I am inspired by artists like Nan Goldin, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Thomas Ruff and Thomas Demand.

Your Gear?

I love the small compact cameras like the Canon ixus
