Could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Ab Rashid. I am a freelance photographer from Khulna, Bangladesh and I am also an employee in a private organization. I’ve been continuing street photography for the past 3 years as a hobby. I am a founder of“Street Photo Bangladesh Magazine” which is a facebook group. I like to explore different shades of life and love to capture those moments. Whenever I capture a unique moment it inspires me to capture more.
What is your childhood memories of the arts?
My family has never been involved in Art. But I loved painting from my childhood. Sometimes I painted a picture. I never thought I’d add myself to photography, but now photography is my biggest hobby.
What first drew you to photography and how did you discover it?
Last few years ago a camera was bought in order to take photos of my family. Gradually I met with some photographers through social media. No sooner had I viewed their photos of different shades, I was inspired by their creation. Until I found the work of Steve McCurry. His works impressed me with the composition and the moment. Gradually I started to walk into the plant of photography. I think I walk into this arena eventually it has turned into my passion with great emotion which will be added a new dimension in photography.
What makes street photography so special to you?
Street photography is game to me which plays with second, moment & luck and where there is no boundary, I can quench my thirst of street photography in anywhere and any time. When I go out in street for click, my eyes are always looking for a moment with the connection. But right click at the right moment is one of the most challenging things in Street photography, those challenges are very special for me because I always like challenge myself and I like to explore different shades of life in street people.
What do you think about street photography in Bangladesh?
Street photography is not very popular in Bangladesh to speak in truth, most of the photographers here live in lifestyle & documentary photography and many of them are award-winning photographers in the world prestigious exhibition/contest as like Worldpress, Hipa, IPA etc.
We also have talented street photographers like Md. Enamul Kabir & Dr. Muhammad Imam Hasan, their role in the development of street photography in Bangladesh is immense. Day by day many young talented photographers are joining this sector and all are doing good. We have a street group named ‘Street Photo Bangladesh Magazine’ they are also working hard for stabilizing in street photography in our country. Bangladesh is full of really enthusiastic people and there are a lot of things happening all around, lots of activities. And this creates many opportunities for street photographers. I am very hopeful that soon our country’s street photographers will brighten the name of Bangladesh all over the world.
What do you think makes a memorable street photograph?
A memorable street photograph, well, for a street photograph to be memorable there should be an element of surprise when the viewer thinks that well I haven’t seen it or thought it in that way! The photograph will be remembered for a long time. Also, another important factor is the emotion in a street photograph.
What do you want your viewers to take away from your work?
I’m always happy to create some confusion & surprise and take way excitement, happiness & new perspective.
What do you do to keep motivated, and not lose your passion for photography?
Travel, I always try to do the combination of my job and my freelance work, always carry my camera and observe what happens around me, and I have a photography album named‘office coronial.’There all the pictures are taken in my office.
What is the best compliment you received so far?
When somebody tells me that I have a great eye, makes me happy.
Which photographers have inspired you?
The list is so long! Hundreds of photographers, so I cannot mention any name, all good photos are my inspiration.
What camera and lenses do you use the majority of the time?
Apart from photography, tell me about your hobbies and interests?
Reading a lot of books & Travelling.
