In the world of photography, few artists have flipped perspective quite like Andrius Burba. His playful yet technically brilliant photo series, “Underlook,” captures animals from a point of view most of us never even think about — from below. What began as a quirky experiment with a cat on a glass table soon turned into an internationally celebrated project that redefines how we see the animal world.

Each photograph offers a surreal peek under the paws, hooves, and fur of creatures both big and small — from fluffy house cats to majestic horses. What’s fascinating is how this inverted view turns the familiar into the extraordinary. The paws become sculptures, tails become lines of motion, and gravity suddenly feels optional.

For the smaller animals, Burba used simple glass tables; but when it came to horses, he went big — digging a two-meter-deep pit and installing a reinforced glass platform capable of supporting the animals’ massive weight. The results? A crystal-clear perspective that’s both funny and artistic, tender and technical.

With Underlook, Burba transforms the mundane into magic. It’s not just about photographing animals — it’s about seeing them differently, finding humor, grace, and geometry where we least expect it. These 20 surreal photos remind us that sometimes, all it takes to discover wonder is to change our point of view.

The Birth of ‘Underlook’ — Turning Curiosity into Concept

Andrius Burba’s creative spark ignited with one simple thought — “What if I could see my cat from below?” That moment of curiosity led to Underlook, a project that reshaped animal portraiture forever. Burba’s first test shots revealed something fascinating: paws pressing on glass like tiny sculptures, fur floating like clouds, and expressions that seemed to ask, “What’s going on down there?” His quirky experiment went viral overnight, proving that fresh perspective sparks connection. From that point on, Burba made it his mission to explore animals from this inverted, whimsical angle — blending humor with high-end technique.

Beneath the Surface — The Art and Engineering Behind the Shots

What makes Underlook so jaw-dropping isn’t just the idea — it’s the execution. Shooting from underneath live animals comes with serious logistical challenges. Burba had to design custom glass stages, sturdy enough for dogs and horses yet clean and clear enough to avoid distortions.

For large animals, he even dug pits to place his camera safely below the platform. Each setup demanded precision lighting, patience, and trust between the photographer and his furry (or hoofed) subjects. The result is a collection that feels both spontaneous and sculptural — where photography meets architecture and every detail reveals a story.

Animals Reimagined — From Cute Companions to Living Sculptures

What’s wild about Burba’s images is how they transform pets into art forms. Seen from below, cats look like fluffy constellations; dogs seem suspended mid-air; rabbits resemble plush spaceships; and horses turn into elegant, weightless giants. This upside-down perspective strips away context and leaves only shape, line, and personality.

Suddenly, paws, hooves, and tails become design elements. The photos walk the perfect line between funny and mesmerizing, inviting viewers to laugh and marvel at the same time. Burba’s lens doesn’t just capture animals — it redefines them.

A Playful Reminder — Seeing the World Differently

The beauty of Underlook goes beyond the novelty. It’s a reminder that creativity often hides beneath the surface. Burba’s work encourages us to question what’s “normal” and to find inspiration in unexpected angles — whether in art, life, or how we look at the world.

His animals, caught mid-pause and mid-motion, symbolize curiosity itself. They remind us that joy, humor, and beauty exist even in the most ordinary details. By turning the camera upside down, Burba reminds us to flip our own perspectives once in a while — and rediscover the magic hiding right under our noses.
