Ray Collins, an acclaimed ocean photographer from Wollongong, New South Wales, has carved out a unique niche in the world of photography by transforming waves into breathtaking works of art. His journey into photography began in 2007, following a life-altering injury sustained during an underground coal mining accident. While recovering, Collins turned to photography as a therapeutic outlet, meticulously studying camera manuals and experimenting with light.

By 2012, Collins had grown weary of the surf photography circuit and took a year-long sabbatical. Rather than following surfers, he turned his lens solely on the waves themselves—capturing their raw power, elegant movement, and fleeting beauty. His moody, atmospheric seascapes began to resonate with audiences beyond the surf world, attracting the attention of art collectors, environmentalists, and major global brands alike.
Today, Collins is more than a photographer—he’s a passionate advocate for the ocean. His collaborations span industries and causes, from high-tech firms to environmental NGOs. Through his work, he strives to depict the ocean not just as a natural force but as a fragile, sentient presence.
