“I photograph birds in a studio that I set up in natural environments. Central to my work are my unique photographic methods, emphasizing the importance of proximity. Collaborating with scientists who capture birds using mist nets, I position my studio close to these nets in nature. This setup allows me to release the birds easily after the photo shoot by simply opening the studio netting that connects the studio to the camera.
I began my Birds series in 2014 in Finland, primarily at the ornithological station in a nature reserve in the outer Hankoniemi archipelago. Recently, I have expanded my work to include research stations in Italy, the Lake Baikal region in Russia, and Costa Rica.”
