The 2024 Travel Photographer of the Year competition once again showcased an impressive array of talent, with the standard of entries continuing to rise. Each year, the task of selecting the winners becomes more challenging, and this year was no exception. The judging panel, comprising experts from across the field, dedicated considerable time to carefully choosing the best photographs from an incredible pool of submissions.
The 17 extraordinary winning photos stand as a testament to the skill, creativity, and passion of photographers around the world. While the winners are outstanding, many other remarkable images were also in contention, underscoring the exceptional quality of work presented in this year’s competition.

#1. Travel Photographer of the Year 2024: Winner – Piper Mackay, USA
"American photographer Piper Mackay won the grand prize for her unique photos, all marked by a signature tone due to the use of infrared lighting. This method creates an otherworldly feel in her portraits of African women, like this image of a Rendile girl from northern Kenya, and in her shots of giraffes crossing Kenya’s vast plains. Mackay shared in a statement that "this award is the culmination of my life’s passion and work across Africa over the past twenty years." She emphasized her belief that "the experience should always shape the photo, not the other way around."
