Junru Xu’s user-centered interactive project Milky Way in the City articulates and explores the interaction between the dead and the living, pushing the boundaries of death while offering a thoughtful user experience design solution to memorialize loved ones and families. The memorial space is crafted from hundreds of independent modular graves, where ashes are transformed into luminous substances. People interact with these holy lights, drawing inspiration and memories of their loved ones from the other world.

This project delves into the concept of facing death without fear, highlighting that death isn’t the end. By fostering remembrance, it unites people and ensures that the departed remain a vital part of the community.
