Here are the results of the nineteenth In-street Monthly Thematic Contest – August 2019. The Street Photography Contest Theme for August 2019 was ‘Poetry With Pixels’.
We received lots of great images during August 01 – August 12, 2019 in our FB group. Thank you so much friends for your enthusiastic response and huge participation. We are very happy to see many images with some innovative interpretation of the monthly theme. It was a tough and exciting job for us to choose the best ones from so many great images.
It is with great pleasure that we announce our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners along with 13 other honorable mentions.
We also have a special winner this time – The Mentor’s Choice image has been chosen by our Guest Mentor Rohit Vohra.
So here is the result… The winner is – Vipin Singh !
1st Place Winner: Vipin Singh
In Street Review: During this monthly Thematic Contest, we were looking for poetic images. Poetry is an elusive art form. It is one where you evoke emotions rather than describe what you feel. It is one of the most difficult things to bring in one’s pictures. Bringing poetry, emotions, evocation into an image goes beyond just shooting what you see in front of you. It’s about merging your inner world with the outside one and make something that hits you in your gut. Vipin’s image managed to do that: through his use of slow shutter, the choice of shooting color, the subject matter, he has elevated a mundane scene into a poem. The ambiance, the atmosphere, the little sparks all work together to bring our emotions forth. This is an image that begs to be looked at for a long time.
2nd Place Winner: Sachin Sawansiya
3rd Place Winner: Sayan Acharya
Mentor’s Choice: Manish Jaisi
Guest Mentor’s Review: A pleasing scene, great play of black and white, the almost expressionless face of the subject looking directly at the viewer, silhouettes at the back, everything comes together in this one frame.
Poetry in photography is when you end up carrying the photograph in your mind, remembering it or even thinking about it just as you would hymn a song long after or just hearing it once. This photograph does that beautifully at the same time the photographer demonstrates the relationship between form and subject aesthetically.
There were other photographs that came close, but this is the winner for me.
