The British Photography Awards (BPA) 2023 have once again showcased the breathtaking beauty of the natural world, with this year’s focus centering on the avian realm. From majestic eagles soaring high above rugged landscapes to delicate hummingbirds sipping nectar from vibrant blossoms, the winning images capture the diverse and splendid birdlife that graces our planet.

As we marvel at these winning images, let us also reflect on the fragile balance of nature and the interconnectedness of all living things. Through the lens of a camera, we gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the world around us, inspiring us to become stewards of the environment and champions for conservation.

The British Photography Awards continue to celebrate the talents of photographers who dedicate themselves to capturing the wonders of the natural world. In doing so, they remind us of the power of photography to inspire, educate, and foster a deeper connection with the world we inhabit.

#1. Winner: Seagull Legs by Tracy Vine

British Bird Photography Awards

“This photo always seems to get people talking as it isn’t immediately obvious what it is. I often hear seagull squawks from the roof of the old building that I work at. On this particular sunny day I was making a cup of tea and looked up to the frosted skylight in the roof of the building, and saw the legs and feet of a seagull which were elongated by a shadow cast from the sun. The seagull was resting there briefly before flying away again. I ran to get my camera and was lucky enough to be able to capture the image before it flew off again.”
