“In 2004, I embarked on a transformative journey, a 4-year cycling expedition that took me on a circumnavigation of the globe. The heart of this odyssey unfolded during the 18 months I spent cycling across Africa, from Cape Town to Cairo. Amidst the vast expanse of the Sahara desert, I found myself lost, only to be rescued by a compassionate Nubian nomad. This encounter left an indelible mark on my soul, igniting a profound love for the nomadic way of life.”

“After covering 40,000 km on my trusty bike, I concluded my expedition, but my passion for Africa persisted. I embarked on a new endeavor titled ‘Portraiting the Last African Tribes.’ This project became my way of preserving the rich cultural tapestry of Africa’s indigenous communities. In Africa, I discovered more than just a destination; I found a home. The continent’s vibrant spirit and the nomadic philosophy resonate deeply within me, making every moment spent there a cherished experience.”

“Between 2008 and 2013, my explorations led me across the African continent, capturing the essence of its vanishing tribes. Initially, my approach was rooted in classic portraiture, emphasizing natural light and static compositions. Over time, my work evolved, embracing a documentary style that delved into the intricate lives of these communities. My focus shifted towards encompassing the landscapes that define these tribes’ existence, culminating in my major project, the biblical journey. In my artistic journey, I draw inspiration from the iconic work of Salgado, shaping my style in homage to his profound influence.”

“The natural world serves as a boundless wellspring of inspiration for me, intertwined with the souls of the people I encounter, compelling me to capture their essence in my portraits. Everyday life, too, unfolds as a captivating narrative, providing a wealth of inspiration. From these sources—nature’s grandeur, the tapestry of existence, and the diverse human spirit—I derive countless stories to convey through my photographs.”
