#1. Photographer of Year: “The Mass Genocide of Civilians: Gaza Under Fire” by Abdelrahman Alkahlout, Palestine
“In Gaza, civilians—innocent children, mothers, and entire families—are being systematically erased. Homes reduced to rubble, dreams buried beneath the debris, and even hospitals, the last refuge of hope, are obliterated. Under a suffocating blockade, food, medicine, and aid are denied. We die silently, our cries unheard, as the world looks on, indifferent to the genocide that destroys lives, erases futures, and breaks souls.”
#2. Discovery of the Year: "Stop Occupation" by Simone Bissoli, Italy
"Sheikh Jarah is a neighborhood in east Jerusalem, where the majority of the population is of Palestinian origin. The government doesn’t like this and, during the night, military incursions take place to liberate the houses and assign them to Israeli settlers. However, not all Israelis agree with the government, some understand how wrong this system is and therefore try to demonstrate peacefully alongside the Palestinians, so that things can change. Now that there is war, and everything takes on a different meaning."
