The Fine Art Photography Awards 2024 delivered a stunning showcase of street photography, capturing the raw essence of life through compelling, award-winning images. This year’s winners brought forth a mesmerizing blend of moments that ranged from the chaotic vibrancy of bustling cityscapes to quiet, poetic scenes of human interaction and urban solitude.
The photographers demonstrated exceptional skill in storytelling, framing, and timing, using their lenses to turn ordinary streets into extraordinary works of art. Among the standout pieces were a monochromatic capture of a lone cyclist riding through a rain-drenched alley, their reflection shimmering on the pavement like a mirage, and a vibrant shot of a street performer whose dynamic movements seemed to freeze in mid-air against a backdrop of graffiti-covered walls.
These photos encapsulated fleeting moments of beauty and drama, celebrating the unpredictable narratives of the streets. The competition also highlighted global diversity, with images from New York’s iconic avenues, the lively markets of Marrakech, and the serene canals of Venice, each offering a unique perspective on urban life. Judges praised the photographers for their ability to find humanity in the mundane and to craft visual poetry from spontaneous encounters.
The Fine Art Photography Awards 2024 not only recognized technical brilliance but also celebrated the emotional depth and cultural significance of street photography, making it a memorable event that continues to inspire artists and audiences worldwide.

#1. 1st Place Winner: "Melancholy" by Nina Papiorek
"Melancholy hovers over this series. The people remain unrecognisable and are therefore replaceable. Perhaps their mood is completely different in real life, but in the photos something melancholy emanates from them, small symbols such as a lowered head or loneliness. For me, the focus of this series was to tear the situation and individual images completely out of their context and to give the viewer something thoughtful to take away with them."
#2. 2nd Place Winner: "Ascension" by Mario Tarantino
"A simple, everyday scene set against the urban backdrop of an underground metro station. This photo highlights how everyday mundane takes on a deeper meaning, moving towards marvellous through the camera’s lens. The minimal composition, its prominent lines not only generate depth but also provide a geometric structure in which the subject’s movement from foreground to end point and into the light is framed."
#3. 3rd Place Winner: "Soul of Cities" by Eric Renard
"This black and white photography series focuses on high contrast, urban cityscapes which reflect an eerie sense of peace and tranquility. The landscape is the hero, with the people in them subject to the power of their surroundings. Wrapped in our daily cocoon of routine, we obliviously move past cityscapes painted by light and shadows."
