The Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2024 competition has once again brought together the world’s most talented astrophotographers, capturing the breathtaking beauty of the cosmos in ways that inspire awe and wonder. This year’s shortlist showcases an array of outstanding images, each one a testament to the skill, patience, and creativity of the photographers. In its 16th year, the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition has solidified its status as the premier event in the field of astrophotography. For 2024, the contest attracted over 3,500 entries from 58 countries worldwide.
Participants can submit their work in various categories, including People & Space; Planets, Comets & Asteroids; Our Sun; Our Moon; Aurorae; and Stars & Nebulae.
The winners, along with the runners-up and highly commended entries, will be revealed on Thursday, September 12, 2024. An exhibition featuring these top images, along with a selection of shortlisted entries, will be on display at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London, starting Saturday, September 14.
