15 Outstanding Award-Winning Photos from the 2025 GDT Nature Photographer of the Year

The German Society of Nature Photographers (GDT) has unveiled the 15 outstanding award-winning photos from its prestigious 2025 Nature Photographer of the Year competition. Open exclusively to its members, this annual event celebrates the artistry and technical skill behind nature photography.

This year’s competition saw an impressive turnout, with 507 photographers from 11 countries submitting more than 8,000 images. After a meticulous pre-selection by a panel of judges, GDT members cast their votes across various categories, including Birds, Mammals, Landscapes, and Other Animals.

Topping the list of winners is Konrad Wothe, who earned the coveted title of Overall Winner for his breathtaking photo titled "Dipper flying through waterfall." The image is the result of over two decades of dedication, with Wothe crediting recent advancements in camera technology for helping him finally realize his vision.

Originally attempted on film, the photograph demanded thousands of exposures and repeated visits to the bird’s nesting site. His persistence and unwavering commitment to capturing this fleeting moment paid off, solidifying his place among the most celebrated nature photographers of the year.
