Breaking the Rules: Winter Porsche Moments by Roman Basiuk

Written by: Spencer Giannetti

Winter brings unique challenges for photographers, but also rare opportunities. This series by Roman Basiuk, an automotive photographer based in Portland, captures Porsche models in winter conditions, bright colours against untouched snow and quiet roads.

The goal was simple: to create contrast and tell a story through real environments. One of the most striking shots shows a blue Porsche 911 Turbo placed next to a “Do Not Enter” sign. At first glance, it looks spontaneous, but it was carefully planned. Roman explains that sometimes you have to break the rules to capture the photo you imagine.

Roman has been working in automotive photography for years, focusing on natural light and minimal editing to keep his images authentic. In this winter series, the snow became part of the composition, highlighting the design and colours of each car without artificial effects. The reflections, textures, and atmosphere were all captured as they were – no staged studios, just real cars in real conditions.

For Roman, automotive photography is about more than just another car picture – it’s about creating emotions through contrast, light, and environment. This collection shows how powerful simplicity can be when combined with a strong vision and attention to detail.
