A Journey from Sydney to Zagreb

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Mary’s path to becoming a street photographer was anything but conventional. After earning her B.A. in Music and French, she moved to Zagreb in 1992, where she later explored her passion for photography by attending analogue courses at the Zagreb Photo Club. However, life’s demands saw her set aside the camera for many years. It wasn’t until she completed the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in 2016 that her passion was reignited. Upon returning, Mary embraced the digital era of photography and resumed her studies at the Zagreb Photo Club, honing her craft and rediscovering her love for capturing life’s fleeting moments.

Finding Marvels in the Everyday

Mary’s artistic philosophy is deeply influenced by the words of renowned photographer Robert Doisneau: “The marvels of daily life are so exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street.” This belief forms the foundation of her work, as she seeks to document the beauty of ordinary people and their daily routines. Her black-and-white photography strips away distractions, emphasizing light, shadow, and emotion to tell compelling stories that resonate universally.
