As Réhahn traversed the diverse landscapes of Vietnam, from the mist-shrouded mountains of the north to the emerald rice paddies of the Mekong Delta in the south, he forged meaningful connections with tribal leaders. His genuine interest and respectful approach earned him their trust, leading to a remarkable act of cultural exchange. Cultural Exploration at The Precious Heritage Museum in Hoi An
In 2017, after a decade of meticulous documentation and dedication, the Precious Heritage Museum opened its doors in Hoi An, Vietnam. Today, this center for cultural enthusiasts encompasses a sprawling 500 square meters. Within its walls lies a collection of more than 200 photographs; each one captures the essence of these communities through a single person’s face and story. The portraits depict a tribal member—often one of the eldest members of the communities—wearing their authentic traditional attire. The differences in the colors, details, motifs, types of textiles, and accessories of the garments give a visual representation of how diverse these cultures are, while the accompanying stories allow visitors to learn about the person in the portrait as well as important details about their ethnic group. Accompanying these portraits are 62 meticulously preserved traditional wardrobe ensembles. Each piece, an intricate tapestry of colors, textures, and cultural symbolism, offers a tangible connection to the artistic heritage of these communities.
Through Réhahn’s work on the Precious Heritage collection, visitors can encounter the intangible cultural traditions of Vietnam that have been passed down through generations.
