Close to 700 entries this time and it was a sweet burden for us to finalize through a heap of noteworthy entries. Going with the theme, we expected some new approach and interesting portraits from the photographers and we heartily accept to the fact that most of the entries were brilliant.

Description: This photo is most assuredly a Portrait of a Stranger. I took the shot somewhere in midtown Manhattan, as I saw a well-dressed man staring fixedly into a building lobby, hands in pockets. He was half-silhouetted by the sun’s glare, with a pencil thin reflection in the glass. I did not and do not have any idea who it was, nor, I think, would anyone else.

Judges Comments:
Ronald has captured the soul of our theme. A strange and peculiar character with his hands tucked inside pockets provokes me a heroic attitude towards him and the gentle reflection to the frame right creates a great balance to this winning picture. Light is fantastic and mystic, it wants me to know more about this man and his doabouts. Composition is perfectly balanced and phrases some interesting questions about the man and his presence before the closed door.

Capturing the decisive moment is never easy on streets and Michail has shot a brilliant capture with multiple elements adding more drama. I would rather translate the bird as a metaphor in achieving the eye contact with a perfect stranger. The moment of shutter press is grand and this wants me to imagine the aftermath of this photograph.

Looks of a complete stranger lost in a conversation. It could be a start of it or an end to one long episode. The cigar smoke and his eyes greet for an introduction which is very welcoming for me from a stranger. Black and white adds more character to the picture and the composition is commanding too.

The Same old Man we often meet during train journeys, lost in memoirs. This photograph feels dynamic and makes me feel as if I am watching a movie. Character of the old man feels superior and diplomatic asking me to imagine about his past. The lacking clarity or sharpness in the photograph mixes up the mood and ultimately creates more curiousity towards this perfect stranger.

A peculiar photograph of a person within a reflection of another giant building. This picture is very much contemporary to the likes of street photography with other two tombs on the frame right. Description: This photo was taken in August 2011 in Zanskar (North India). This girl is posing in front of the entrance to a “Doksa” (pasture). During the summer months, women in the Zanskar live high in the alpine to graze animals: cows, yaks, dzos, sheep, etc.

Judges Comments:
The gesture and the body language of the little girl is very charming. Her eyes lighting up the photograph with some perfect blend of emotions adds more character to this photograph. Composition is good, Anne has captured the portrait within the girls habitat which i think is exceptional.

On my travels, the time of the day I always look forward to is dusk. One obvious reason is that this is a good time to admire the beauty of nature, when the sun sets over an unfamiliar landscape, casts long shadows and puts a soft, warm glow on everything its rays caress. The setting sun is infinitely beautiful, however it heralds the dark”. To me, sunset is the most cheerful part of the day. It is when people are knocking off, and looking forward to a nice dinner and spending time with their family—when people are most relaxed, and in their most natural element.

Description: I love to work with Underwater Photography because of the Silhouette capabilities using the sun as the light source. It is not very often do we (photographers) get to use the sun in the middle of the day as it can often weash out a shot in an instance. However once underwater with the barrier of the surface, positioning subjects against the sun can create some of the most spectacular contrasts and silhouette opportunities available. I chose this shot because it emphasises that feeling of first dipping underwater for a dive, to lose the natural light as you delve further and further into the blue. Within a silhouette you lose a lot of personable features or details creating just an outline of the event as it unfolds. This is very similar to diving, surrounded by equipment in a world where you cannot talk, or play on an iPhone or hand over a business card a lot of your “identity” is lost, especially as you quickly become the inferior species in an alien world. A silhouette of your former-self.

Hello Shutterbugs! To start with we thank everybody who made the previous contest a grand success, and to keep up the good work we are here ready with the Contest for the month of July 2012.

“The Darkness before the light, that stunning visual symbolizing the nature of back light. That one light drawing almost everyone of us would have tried shooting; yes the theme for this month’s contest is “The Mood of Silhouette“.

Go ahead and post those golden moments with the “The Mood of Silhouette” and get us filled in your splendid photographs!!

Submission Guidelines

• The photo must be in JPG format, minimum size of 1024 x 680 pixels.
• Each participant may send one photo at most with proper titlle and description.
• Name your photo with your full name (For example “steve-anderson.jpg”).
• Please do not send ZIP, RAR or another archive. Just the plain image.
• You must own the copyright of the photo you are submitting.
• Submit your photo to the email address 121clicks@gmail.com by 25th of July 2012.

Deadline and Announcement

Please submit your photo by July 25th, 2012 at the latest. The qualifying submissions and the winners will be announced a week later. We will showcase the most interesting photos here on 121clicks.com, including the names of the contributors.

The vital attraction of this image is its “Decisive moment”. Two kids are enjoying the water splash together – a sharing moment with energy of smile and friendship. Background bokeh and the quality of light, both has created an overall drama. Technical part of capturing this image should have been very challenging. Photographer has executed the theme of the contest very aesthetically. The image is tranquil, pleasing and has a heavenly visual taste.
