Can you please introduce yourself?

My name is Tatyana Tomsickova, I am from Bulgaria, married and currently live in Prague, Czech Republic. Mother of two beautiful boys, who are the reason to start shooting more intensively. I have had passion for photography from my childhood, but could afford to buy my first DSLR only after the birth of my first born. I have been taking pictures almost four years now and I cannot imagine my life without my camera.

What fascinates you to capture these precious kids?

Children are pure, innocent and happy creatures, with geniune emotions, nothing about kids is artificial. This is the reason why I love taking pictures of children. I love to capture the pure emotion, the happiness and the sadness, the surprised faces and even the tears – everything is so pure.

What is the secret behind to capture a goodportrait?

Patient!!! For me photographing kids is all about patient. You have to be armed with patient, you have to let the kid play his own game and just stay aside and take pictures! That is how you will get the most natural, candid pictures. I usually prepare everything for the session, then just leave the child to play on the place I have chosen for shooting and I stay on hold, waiting for the right moment, the right look and the right smile. When photographing children you have to take in consideration that children get tired very quickly, so get ready with all the settings of the camera before you leave the child to play, so you won’t miss a precious moment, because the camera was not set right. You always have to choose your background very cautiously, no distracting object behind the child, no trees, growing from his head.

Any sweet memories while you capture these kids?

I can recall a few sweet memories. Once I took a picture of my boy, splashing in a little pond, of course he gave me couple of sweet pictures, good splash and funny face and then jump in the pond with the shoes.

Your Inspiration?

My inspirations are my kids, with their sweet faces and the thousand different looks they can give me in a few minutes. Of course I obtain inspiration from pretty much everything that surrounds me. If I see an interesting place, I always imagine what good image can be done there; I go home and then go back to the place with the appropriate props, clothes, persons at the right time and light. And that is pretty much the most important thing – to be on the right place at the right time and not to forget the camera at home.

Any advice for our readers?

Always have your camera in your bag, because you never know when you will stumble on something interesting and unique. And you never know when you will hit a place with a beautiful light!

Elena Gromova through her photographs makes us forget the daily dizzy world we live in and pronounce her silent art photographs to us. Often in monochrome and wide, there is this dominance of emotions and easily relatable content with Mustafa’s photographs. These are examples for us believe more in spirit of humanity which prevails to be uniform throughout the globe.

Few words about yourself?

I was born in Istanbul on 22nd February, 1978. Having come from an engineering background, I started taking photos six years ago solely by my own trial-and-error efforts with no special or professional courses. Contrary to the common practices, i have not been so much engaged in watching photos, as i am used to try what has not been tried before, so it becomes possible to create some specific things for me to achieve in photography.

During my early days of my photography, i was rather involved in fictional works by taking photos in the remote and demoted places of my beloved  Istanbul. Before publishing my photos through internet, i hesitantly began to show them to some of my close friends and relatives. For me, it was very surprising to get some positive feedback, which encouraged me to share my works from then onwards, in a union of website for professional Turkish photographers. My fictional works really drew attention there too, and it kept my enthusiasm fresh.

Later, when gaining exposure through more global photography forums and network, realized a lot more. I can say that it was the breaking point in my life as a photographer, as i became aware of the fact that the most important factor was not the techniques, but the composition and the story itself. My horizon was really enlarged by watching the works of various magnificient global photographers, where upon i was more inclined to focus on the composition.

What kind of place is Istanbul for photography?

Istanbul is very characteristic place. History and modernity are nested in this city so that gives lots of options to photographers. You can view historical places as well as the city hosts pictures reflect the modern face of the developing city. This is a place which combines asia and europe.

With a camera on the street, what is that you always wish to capture?

I would like to reflect natural and sincere frames. I strive for it and I try to keep a secret notion of time, in this sense, my Istanbul has been very helpful for me. I shoot moments which are compelling and natural to me as well as aesthetically appealing.

Your Gear?

I am using Nikon. I have 2 bodies, Nikon D800 and D700. I mostly love to use my wide-angle lens. My lenses are Nikon 14-24 mm, Nikon 35 mm and Nikon 50 mm.

Who is your inspiration?

From my country Ara Güler and of course I love the works of Henri Cartier Bresson. Both of contemporary photographers has similar studies, and have their own unique styles which is very inspiring for me.

Few words about yourself?

This one is bit tough for me…. I am a simple person, dream the life of a migratory bird… travel from one destination to another. Very close to family, friends and my camera.

Born in Kerala one of the most beautiful place in the world. Always loved to travel a lot and had the luck to visit few exotic places in this world. After my graduation in Applied Arts from the Fine Arts College of Trivandrum, I worked for different design and digital agencies in India and abroad.

Currently working as a Project Manager for a digital agency based in Dubai. Dream is to become a full time nature photographer and travel around the world.

Your wonderful stint as a Nature Photographer, how did all this start?

I always enjoyed and loved nature starting from my childhood. The beginning of nature photography was 3 years back when I got introduced to a small closed group called Shutter Bugs Creative Forum based in Dubai, mentored by Mr. Mohammed Arfan Asif. This give an opportunity to use the camera on a regular basis. The 90% of my time in my weekends is often dedicated for photography and my photography friends.

For Nisha what does it take to produce a great picture?

Below are the points that I follow:

• More than any thing true love for nature. I feel the rest will just follow you.
• Then a lot of patience and willingness to practice practice and practice…
• Viewing other photographer’s pictures on a regular basis
• Understanding & capturing of light, motion and emotion
• Play with Aperture, Shutter Speed, White Balance & ISO
• And last, always try to bring some actions in your pictures

Your Gear?

I was using Canon 60 D and Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 L IS USM for all this while. Recently added a Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM and a Canon 1Dx.

Few words of inspiration for aspirants and enthusiasts in this field?

As I always feel, one should fall in love with nature and the rest will just follow.

• Observation along with regular practice are the keys.
• A nature photographer require a lot of patience.
• Need to be in the field for hours waiting for a best moment to come.
• See and learn the good and bad from others images.
• A clear understanding of the gear will help a lot.
• An image with some action in it will appeal more than a static subject.
• An image stay long in people’s mind when it share a story…keen observation and regular practice will help to click on right time.

Can you please introduce yourself?

Hi my name is Rohan Reilly and I am a photographer based in West Cork, Ireland. I specialise in black and white long exposures of the sea, but also love traditional landscapes and architectural photography work as well.

How did you get started in photography?

I started to become interested in photography five years ago, when I lived in Barcelona. I was inspired by the architecture of Antoni Gaudi and Santiago Calatrava amongst many others. I also visited the museums of Dali, Picasso and Miro with my wife who has encouraged me hugely with my forays into photography. I started in the city and then moved to the sea, that is one of the many reasons I love to visit Barcelona as the sea and city are so close to each other, you can wake up look at the sky and decide whats best to shoot.

What is the secret behind to capture these great landscapes?

I spend a lot of time researching my subjects, checking the weather, checking tide times etc. I quite often know how I will process a scene even before i get there. Vision is so important, understanding what you want from a scene makes it easier to achieve. I like to work in flat light for my BW seascapes, I love mist, soft rain and moody clouds, it is in these conditions that I feel most comfortable. I love to be alone at a scene and to study the subjects, working the angles before I take out my camera. I usually make only one or two compositions of a subject and then try many exposures to create the mood I want.

Can you please describe your post-processing technique?

I generally capture multiple exposures of a scene. I open all my images into LightRoom and then assess which exposure or exposures I think will work best. Sometimes I will use up to three shots for one image, sometimes just one, it all depends on the scene, I don’t use composites from other scenes just bracketed exposures when needs be. I don’t use any grads just b+w ND filters, a 10 stop and 3 stop.

I then convert these exposures to B&W in LR, and process them individually before sending them to Photoshop where I use layers and masks to blend the exposures together. I will then save and open again in LR and make crops and final adjustments to gradients and vignettes here.

I generally work at night and then review the following day, I work on an image for days at a time. I study the image from around the room, (from where I make tea is a popular spot) I look at my images large and small, if an image works small it will definitely work large. I review my images on White / Light grey / Grey / Dark Grey and Black backgrounds. This is a new function in C6 that I love, each background reveals something new and I want my images to present themselves perfectly on all backgrounds.

What is your inspiration?

I am continuously inspired with the landscape around me, I live in a very beautiful part of Ireland. I also read books and look at websites by photographers of all styles. I am also active on Flickr, Facebook and Google + and am inspired continuously by my friends and contacts. I also find inspiration through other arts, films and music too. These are very enlightening to explore compositions, lighting and moods.

Your Gear?

I use a Canon 5D Mark II, 17-40mm f4, 50mm f1.4 and a 85mm f1.8, a Slik Tripod, shutter release and 10/6/3 stop B+W ND Filters.

Any tips or advises for aspiring photographers?

• Make things easier for yourself, have a simple workflow and organised folders make your work less stressful and then you will be relaxed when working.
• Check weather forecasts, tide times, use google maps, TPE, exposure apps, all these things help so much, so you get it right more often.
• I think some form of originality is very important, which is very hard to achieve and will become even harder. You can develop this through style and signatures, but these will take time to develop. There is no need to rush, all things take time but hard work and dedication will pay off.
• Finally and most imposrtantly always believe in, and enjoy your work.

I would like to thank you for asking me to do this interview, I always learn a little bit more about myself when I write things down. Also I have been following your site from afar for some time and it is an honour to be included amongst so many inspirational photographers.

Hi Asri, can you please introduce yourself?

Hi, my name is Asri from Indonesia and I’m a mother of two lovely girls. Just like any other ordinary housewife which is responsible for plenty of homy work and other family matters, in my spare time I used to be busy with my hobby “photography”. Currently I’m residing in Doha-Qatar.

How did you got interest in Food Photography?

Most common problem for us who stay outside of the country is “food” matters, being far from sometimes is difficult to find Indonesian dishes or just a cake and it force me to learn how to make dishes or bake cakes that it could not be found here and make a photo documentation of it so I can show them off to my family back home.

At the beginning of photo-documenting my work, I just simply shooting the food as it is without any arrangement (props, lighting etc) but later on the more I make various dishes the more I want the photos looks good. So starting that time, I asked my husband to teach how to use camera properly (my husband has a big passion in photography since long time back).

In 2008, I joined one of still life photo group on Multiply.com and from there on I realized that making dishes and creating photos of it is not just “creating photo” there is an art in it and it become my passion now, passion of food photography.

Foody Photography is a branch of Still life photography, Like the definition of still life it self, make something still into life one, Foody photography also has a kind of goal for their audience, to make food looks great , interesting and life . To achieve that one are needed a combination of passion , practice and patient.

Your Gear?

I am using natural light as my main source, such as window, door light and take most of my photos indoor. My favorite lens for capturing them are Nikkor 85mm F1.4 & Nikkor 50mm F1.4.

Any Final words?

As an amateur, I should be a food stylist, props stylist, photographer, chef at the same time and that are what I called a challenge. It looks like complicated, but once you try you’ll never be able to leave it. And then finally “Let’s capture with our heart “.
